Detailed Description

Property target interpolator is useful for performing gradual transition over time from previous property value to its new value after new value is set to the property.

By default, the new value is immediately applied to the property after it is set, for example, via Object::setProperty(). If smooth transition is required instead, property target interpolator can be used to automatically animate the property value.

Property target interpolator interpolates property of specified type on the node it is attached to. Target property type is specified by setting the type name to InterpolatedPropertyType property of the player.

Interpolation of property value is done by simulating behavior of critically damped harmonic oscillator. The behavior of interpolation is controlled by Acceleration and Drag properties of the interpolator:

  • Acceleration specifies how fast interpolation will be done from old property value to new one. Larger acceleration leads to faster reaching new property value.
  • Drag affects the maximum speed of interpolation. Larger drag lowers maximum speed of interpolation.

Note that InterpolatedPropertyType, Acceleration and Drag properties are applied by the interpolator only once when it is attached to the node. New values which are set to these properties after player is attach will not change the interpolation target or interpolation behavior of the interpolator.
